TUESDAYS ARE THE NEW MONDAYS

A Tuesday alternative to Beige at B Bar! Rejoice! As much as I love Beige DJ John John Fields (left), I am brimming with pleasure at the announcement that Jon Jon Battles will return to his East Village stomping ground tonight for the debut of his friend Steffen's biweekly party Tell Tale Heart. Oh, and $3 drinks after 1am.

And before 1am, there's a new East Village gay bar conveniently wedged between The Cock and The Urge that open tonight. Tuesday gay-hem! It's called Dtox (unfortunate, I know) but they're hosting an open bar from 10 to 12 and serving up drinks named after famous rehabbers. I hope Ted Haggard is on the menu. The amazingness that is Britney Houston performs.

ALL THAT GLITTERS

Here's two upcoming parties that I recently received fliers for in my inbox. The first is next Thursday, July 31st at the Annex. Its a new gay shindig called Tricky hosted by perennial faves Michael T. (from Motherfucker), Ernie Cote (from Sugarland) and emcee Linda Simpson (from the heavens up above). I'm guest DJ for the first Thursday, where the free vodka begins flowing 11pm. Don't be late!

And then the glamazon known as Charles sent me the invite for his end of proceedings at this year's Miss Fire Island pageant, where he'll be handing over his, er, Stephanie Stone's
tiara to the next big winner. Expect lots of couture and Mary J. Blige realness. September 6th. Fire Island.

CLOSING DOWN THE KABIN

Four years and three months after I first began DJing Saturday nights at a new straight bar on Second Avenue called Kabin (and often referred to as Kabin with a K), I played my last gig there this past weekend. When I started, I used to schlep two crates of records there and back, hoping a friend or boyfriend would stick around until the end of my shift so I wouldn't have to lug them up five flights of stairs all by my lonesome. Now it has become standard for customers to bring their own iPods and beg you to play Young Jeezy or Rick Ross from their library if my cd library lacks it (which it does, on purpose).

Spontaneous kickline realness!

Kabin gave me the chance to perfect my DJ craft. I held court in the back lounge, which you could only access by wading through the frat brothers and drunk girls up front. I could basically play any type of music I wanted, which tended to be lots of dancehall early on (Kabin used to be Black Star, a well known dancehall bar/club) and more hip hop and 80s of late. In the end, I had become overbooked on Saturdays with more lucrative events and there's only so many times I can handle requests for Justin Timberlake and Madonna on repeat.

My favorite Kabin-ettes, Denise (left) and Tara

I can't think of a funny story to relate at the moment except for when this drunk dude was sitting on a couch next to the DJ booth and just leaned over and vomited straight up into the booth, blocking the booth's entrance/exit with his vom. And then there was the foreign ballroom dancing couple who would always come in and request Black Eyed Peas' Shut Up and do an entire routine to it. Or this big black 21-year-old girl (if that) and her posse, who kept dutty wining for like two minutes after her boobs had totally busted out of her dress and where flapping every which way.

I liked when spontaneous dance parties would erupt. Especially when Dr. Jen (second from left) was starting or participating. I will miss Kabin and all the amazing people who braved a visit or brought their friends or dates there to make out in the corner booth. But now I am finally free to DJ bigger and better parties on Saturdays, so spread the word.

WEEKEND DANCEHALL AMAZINGNESS

I DJed a Guyanese dance party in Queens this weekend!

OH THE VANITY

On the heels of our Prince protege party, I penned an email to Ms. Denise "Vanity 6" Matthews today letting her know how much joy she continues to bring whether it be through her evangelical work or her sultry 80s pop jams. Surprisingly, she wrote back within 20 minutes:

Hey Josh, i haven't heard my music in 15 years...u must know why...one time about seven years ago they played it and i left the building...i am with Jesus and it does not apply. Anyhow i hope to be in New York and check out blameitonvanity.com. My book will be ready in September.... Jesus bless you thank u for writing josh....

Can we say Vanity book release party?!! I already invited her and told her she can play whatever music she'd like off her ipod if she does a meet and greet and/or book signing with the gays. Talk about a wet dream!

GOOD TIMES: SEX SHOOTERS

I've been longing to host a Prince protegé night for eons now, which finally happened last Wednesday at Good Times @ Eastern Bloc. All the Vanity 6 you could ever hope for with some Jill Scott and Carmen Electra mixed in for good measure.

Troy (right) surprised us with a snackage of strawberry ber-rays. The kind you find in a second hand store.

Christian (left) and Ashton partied out of bounds with me not only Wednesday night but at Sunday's Metro BBQ as well. Did you know they used to date? Like, back in the 80s.

Casey (left, with Jason and Nate) asked me not to post his pic if he came out looking wiggity whack. Luckily, his left half came out looking as adorable as ever.

Living the glamorous life a la Shiela E!

Why am I suddenly seeing this shirt everywhere I go? I half expected it to be on sale at the gift shop after the Murakami exhibit but I was shit out of luck and had to settle for rainbow-colored smiley face throw pillow.

The only makeout shot of the night? What's up with that?! Maybe photographer Kelvin's game was off or maybe no one was feeling Carmen Electra's Fantasia Erotica.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAKER! Matt the Baker (left) turns 35 years young this Saturday but will start celebrating at the next Good Times and won't stop till he turns 36.

Frat night outting! Sadly, there was no table for them to play beer pong.

Miss Buddy (left) and Evans, who always smells so fresh and so clean clean.

Michael (right) is all giddy because I took it there and played Vanity's unreleased track known as Vibrator right after I played Jill Jone's G-Spot.

Uh oh. Looks like Christian fell asleep in the sun out on Fire Island last weekend. No wonder why he called me pale.

Sex shooters! Shootin' love in your direction.

This is the I don't want to be photographed or appear on your blog look.

Geoffrey nearly brought Jill Jones out to the party because they're good friends or something! I know. I nearly died too. TU VUOLE LA MIA BOCCA!

Rowdy Saudis.

The adorableness that is Peter, waiting for me to step my game up and step out with Blue Limousine.

Jacob, Christian, lady friend and Scotty (from left), reminiscing about their days at the Mug back at Vassar.

Mikey (left, with Matt the Baker), who has lots of free time this summer to strut, pout and be puttin' out.

MY FAVORITES! I love nothing more than to see Simon, AJ and Michael (from left) any time, any where. Kind of like that Janet Jackson song.

Photographer Kelvin not only helps out with camera duties but he also bussed some glasses for Sammy, who was substitute bartending while Darren was "filming" in Berlin.

Wearing a Pink Floyd shirt to a bar is kind of like advertising that you're really really stoned to anyone who sees you or decides to take a pic of you making a stoner face.

Jimmy (right) and I just got interviewed for East Village Boys, though the interview has yet to be posted. CELEBRITIES!

Nice interior shot of the Eastern Bloc bathroom when not housing 10 people at once.

Matt, Justin and Antoine (from left), hoping someone will grace their sugar walls this evening.

Oooooh. Josh and Liz (on the right) made a drunken late night appearance after the bulk of the Apollonia album had already been played. And now they're on fashion tour or something so buy their tshirts if you see 'em.

They deserve a second picture for giving such orgasmic enthusiastic realness.

Joshua (right) and I always have a "Hi Joshua," "Well hello Joshua," exchange when we see one another, which is pretty much every week at one venue or another. CLUB KIDS 08'!

I am in love love love with Bill's Nike tee. I also tried to help him "sit on a secret" as Jaime (not pictured because he left early) would say but there were no takers.

They are ready for next week's Neneh Cherry party. Trust.

Mooka laka hiki! Come on you wanna lei me! Pass the poi, mahalo!

Dear Kyra, I hope you are having fun in LA. Last week was a little nuts (cue Vanity's Pretty Mess) so try to keep it slightly more tame on the West Coast. Love, Josh

Oooh. Tonight I really am living in a fantasy, my own little nasty world.

After six wild and crazy years in New York City's gay nightlife, James finally makes his debut in the back of this week's HX. Check him out.

Through the smoke and foggy smoke out front with Scotty (right), Mikey said farewell and jetted off to Europe for a month of fun and frolicking. If you'd like to party with him, let me know.

When two gay party photographers collide.

Drew G. (left) finished off the night with us and then headed to the nearest diner because we're both from Long Island and that's what you late at night. Disco fries galore!

BRING THE NOISE!

DANCE FREE NYC! Today, from NY1:

City May End Cabaret Laws Against Dancing

City Hall is looking to eliminate the 82-year-old cabaret license so bar patrons can dance if so moved.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said this morning that officials are talking with the Consumer Affairs Office, which issues the licenses, and the NYPD, which enforces the laws about making a change. The Prohibition-era regulation prohibits dancing at bars and clubs by three or more people unless the establishment has a cabaret license. There are only 181 licensed cabarets in New York -- meaning many bars are going without dancing or ignoring the law. A court last year upheld the city's right to hand out licenses because of the need to protect other residents from noise.

That's right, non-New York readers. It's still illegal to dance in most places in NYC but here's to hoping that'll change.

REMEMBERING THE L.E.S. LEZ

Vasmay Lounge, the straight watering hole that replaced the Lower East Side lesbian mecca known as Meow Mix where I once DJed a rockin' New Years Eve party, has closed. Or, according to the sign on the door this morning, has moved to 179 Essex St., which must mean Essex Ale House (previously 12-inch, which would have made for a great gay bar if in name only) has also closed. Lest we not forget what came before 12-inch bar: FILTHY MCNASTY'S, the best-named bar ever.

FAMILY FRIENDS

I haven't been to a lot of Saturday night parties, including Formika's Family affair over at 40C on Avenue C due to previous DJ commitments. But if ever a picture were to entice me, this is it. And it's not because of the boys.

RAINBLO GIVING LEIGH BOWERY SATURDAY NIGHT FEVERISHNESS!

VIEWER VIDEOS GALORE

Thank you to all my wonderful readers who send me amazing videos and songs to watch and listen to, such as these.

And Prince protegé night was a smashing success. Pics will be up on Wednesday but in the meantime, here's some Sex Shooter weirdness.

GOOD TIMES: TEENAGE WHORES

Courtney Love may have moved out of her New York City pad two years ago but has since remained in the hearts of Good Times party goers. Last Wednesday at Eastern Bloc, we celebrated all things Hole with a little Drown Soda and a lot of Boys on the Radio.

Michael won the party out of bounds award for wearing his Hole tshirt. I bet this tee went over real well back when he was a Marine.

Damian (left, with Anthony) began shedding his own tshirt but then rushed out of the bar to begin working the midnight shift (just like Donna Summer!) over at Cafeteria.

British rudeboys who wanted to hear hip hop instead of Pretty on the Inside. Two weeks too late! Shoulda been here for the Queen Latifah party!

My beautiful sons.

Speaking of beautiful, I inquired about this beau only to find out he may or may not be promoter Josh Wood's foxy boyfriend. He and Josh can hire me for any type of party they please.

Marlon (right), giving literal head to a fellow in the pole position.

Formika (right, with Buddy) used to run a legendary East Village party called Rock 'n' Roll Fag Bar and was simply overjoyed by everything Courtney, especially when I went all metal with Teenage Whore.

Friendly summertime health reminder: the safest level of sun exposure is zero sun exposure.

Ooooh. I didn't play that oldie called Retard Girl but this picture reminds me that maybe I should have.

This coming Wednesday, Good Times bids farewell to our dear friend Kyra (not pictured), who has requested the presence of lovely ladies for her to make out. Oh, and she'll make out with guys too. It's a win-win situation.

Gino! Miss Gino has been on the West coast for way too long but dropped in for a drink or five and invited me to grab and fondle his friend's boob.

Andrew, Jacob, Benji and Christian (from left) have been reliving their college days in more ways than one. Here is a special song I promised Jacob I'd post for him after telling him about in the rainyness that was our fourth of July. Lorna - Papi Chulo (club mix).

If a Flight Enters the Computer Age tshirt can get you laid by this dude, then I'm buying up the National Air and Space Museum's gift shop clothes NOW.

JEWS! I'm sure Alex, Benji and Brian (from left) were discussing the marvels of matzoh balls and whether they prefer floaters or sinkers.

STOP THE PRESSES! Charles (center) is NOT posing for a photograph! Maybe after watching all those Denise Richards episodes, he finally realized one thing about being seen on Twerking: it's complicated.

GRAVITY-DEFYING BANGS UP REALNESS.

The crowd was love love loving the Courtney Love except for the harajuku girl on the right, who thought is was Gwen Stefani night.

I love me some Ross (left), who emerged from his 2008 hibernation just to hear (and touch) some Celebrity Skin.

Hi Jenna! So good seeing you twice in one week. Not sure why you're rocking the shocker but maybe it's a lady thing.

I love how he's like, oh, let me hold one button on my shirt together if we're going to be photographed. So coy.

Ladies smoking ciggies on cell phones.

That whole handlebar mustache thing really came and went and is coming back now in an ironic reference to last year's trend. Meta!

That whole carrot top trend that I referenced last week is even catching on with the ladies. This pic reminds me of Marlon's request for Be a Man, the last Hole song ever recorded which I forgot to bring out. Sorry Marlon!

Simon, Michael and Kevin (from left) looking like a human color gradient.

Smiling because they sense that next week, I'll be paying tribute to the ladies of Prince. Apollonia 6, here I come.

Quelle suprise! Rob (right) talking to a handsome young'un named Jonathan.

If Ian's out (center), he's usually single and ready to mingle. Love the canary yellow trousers. Or is that mustard?

Heaven tonight!

Did you know that Courtney Love used to pole dance to pay the bills? Or so she says. Something tells me this chap might have a more respectable job. Librarian, perhaps?

Ian and Rob, eenacting my favorite song from Courtney's solo album, But Julian I'm a Little Bit Older Than You.

James (right, with Mark) has dressed up as Courtney Love for like, the past five Halloweens. Clearly the girl with the most cake.

Hell's Kitcheners on a summer getaway to the East Village.

By 3am, the masses were well intoxicated but still going strong.

...and still handsome too!

Come 4am and everybody had lived through this long enough but still wanted more. That's why I promised to reprise Hole night for James' birthday this September, complete with a Miss World Courtney Lookalike contest. Gutless!
