GOOD TIMES: TUNE IN TOKYO
Remember when Madonna made a guest DJ appearance at Misshapes a few years ago and everyone kind of went bananas (except for me. I'm pretty sure she used her iPod). Well I had that same bananas feeling when I booked the world famous Alex From Tokyo to come and play our weekly Good Times party at Eastern Bloc last Wednesday. Alex is pretty much a DJ god and lived up to his reputation and then some.
Astro Earl (right) is a nightlife legend from the Limelight era and though we had never formally met before last Wednesday, I was well aware of his legacy and honored to have him at my rinky dink East Village party.
Because we've gone straight from winter into summer, the outdoor shows were in full effect throughout the evening, starting with this pose here as we told him "cameras ready, prepare to flash."
Taylor, representing in his yellow denim vest and tattoos for days.
She won the award for craftiest use of a sleeping mask.
A very intentional nip slip, courtesy of another tatted-up fellow we've grown fond of named Kyle, who just celebrated his one-year-in-New-York anniversary. We ordered up the humidity just for this occasion.
Dallas' hippest professor, Andrew (left) rolled through town for an event I DJed at Cipriani over the weekend and made the requisite Good Times appearance with his requisite arm candy, Solie
Eastern Bloc bar owner Darren's arm candy, Dirk (pictured here) was also on holiday from Berlin and hung around with our other East German friend Eric talking about the East German money that Eric's family still has stored in their walls "in case East Germany comes back." That's a direct quote from Eric.
Smile! You're on candid camera.
Spontaneous pole dances erupted as Alex from Tokyo segued from the spacier stuff to the funkier stuff. And no one was mad at any of it.
One of those Eric Erlandson kind of moments.
Punky brewsters, who I also had a lovely little chat with while I was still coherent.
Gugu was looking gu-gu-gorgeous as ever and yes, the lollipop was an accessory and honey did she know how to work that lollipop BOOTS.
This charming fellow to the left is named John and though he is giving major GTL Jersey Shore effect (in a really good way), he actually hails from Ohio and would never treat a lady the way Ron Ron treats Sammy Sweetheart.
I'm pretty sure Arrash introduced this stunning lady in the middle as his sister, though this is precisely the part of the night when things go hazy and get really really amazing.
One of our London sisters, Konstantinos, had already been in town for a week seeing the sights of New York before we had the brief opportunity to catch up with him last Wednesday. And so we beckon this one to return to New York real real soon as well. Please.
Loving the maror side eye the one girl is giving to the other, like BACKDAFUCKUP OFF MY POLE OR ELSE...
We have a new love and appreciation for our dear friend Thomas ("no photos! go away TMZ!") after experiencing the Broadway phenomenon that is The Book of Mormon earlier this week. Thomas never went on a mission though, unless you consider moving to the East Village and gaying it up a mission.
The bad news is Kevin is moving out of his beloved Brooklyn apartment. The good news is he's coming up to Provincetown with me when I DJ fagbash on August 22nd. MARK YOUR CALENDARS. #hairyinvasion
Amir, pulling the most major outfit change stunt since he is now ready for yet another photo. Take notes, people.
Get into his dance moves and the Hello Kitty sanrio realness that Darren decorated the bar with soley to emphasize the Tokyo connection.
Three things I love about my job, pictured here.
I'm convinced that Rikki's entire wardrobe consists of onesies and I'm so not mad at it.
Gugu giving you late night street shows.
Me and the one and only Roze, who even has a shout out on the new Scissor Sisters album (listen to the beginning of "Let's Have a Kiki") because she is just that major.
And with these two Native New Yorkers in the house, the party can officially begin.
Lap dance shows, part one.
Lap dance shows, part two.
And so, another Good Times came and went and Santi is sad that its over. But hey - we have Horse Meat Good Times next week with yet another incredible, international DJ, Severino, who just played Cielo on Sunday with Jim (they're both part of Horse Meat Disco) and it was FANTASTICO! So see you next Wednesday. And thanks again to Alex from Tokyo and everyone who came out. xo, Sparber
Alex's wife Sarah (left, with Alex) dropped her hubby off early and asked us to take good care of him as she couldn't stay out late on a weeknight. And so we introduced him to every gay in the village and made sure he was good and comfortable before he astounded us with his set.

A very Good Times Bel Ami twin moment, if Bel Ami twin porn models actually ever had any body hair.
Charlize in the middle of a Ryan sandwich. And can we just say that we are super sad to be missing Ryan S. (left) and Ron Like Hell (not pictured) at Cocktail D'Amour in Berlin this coming weekend. But not too sad actually, as I'll be in Istanbul this weekend DJing myself so if you're in the part of the world, come say hey!
Though it is hardly Thanksgiving, we are thankful that JR moved back to the East Village and can now swing by each and every Wednesday for a drink (or 5).
VINYL ALERT! Alex asked if I could bring along my turntable (my original Technics 1200, which I learned to DJ on no less) and I'm glad I did, as Alex's cosmic disco / dance set was OFF THE CHART. We're crossing our fingers that he'll come guest again and we're also planning on following him to Japan (he's french but lived there for 20 years) and becoming crazy Alex From Tokyo groupies.
We found this one in Berlin and brought him to Los Angeles and then back to New York with us. He is big and German and his name is Eric and he tans really well for an Aryan.
This little cutie named Amir traveled all the way from Israel to party with us and even did an outfit change halfway through the night. Unfortunately, we didn't get to chat so much, which means he'll have to come back for another visit. Or we'll have to make our way to Israel in the near future.

I may or may not have seen these two exiting the bathroom together but I'm sure Michael T. was simply practicing his German and Dirk was happy to help.

GOOD TIMES: THE LOST PARTY PHOTOS
At last Wednesday's Good Times get together at Eastern Bloc, the messiest mary of 'em all, DJ Jeff Chatterton, covered for me while I cruised around LA in a convertible getting way too much sun and DJed at some parties called Raunch, Furr Trade and Bears in Space, all of which were major. Since no one snapped photos at Good Times, however, I've dug some unseen photos from last year when my lovely friends Colby B. and Kevin Graves filled in during another jaunt of mine.
Given that these three all chose to wear white tshirts, you would think this Good Times may have happened shortly after last year's Memorial Day festivities in the beginning of June. Unfortunately, the climate and attire inside Eastern Bloc never matches that outside of Eastern Bloc so again, no idea when these photos were taken.
Shorty swing his waaaaaaaaay
Boys and their best Blue Steel model poses.
One of bar owner Darren's more XXX poster choices, which is probably now hanging on a Bushwick bedroom wall that I hope to see one day so I can be like, THAT'S FROM EASTERN BLOC!
That really sexy guy on the left had just moved to New York from Hawaii last year so yeah, I think this party happened last fall, though I haven't seen him out and about in a minute so maybe he's back in Oahu conducting hukilaus.
New York nightlife icon Rainblo (left), who has since gotten more inked up and has even managed to ruffle a few feathers in New York nightlife and that is exactly why we love him.
Our timeless Good Times favorites, Ryan, Steven and Gary (from left), with Gary giving his typical no-photo diva pose and Ryan living his typical Mariah Carey diva fantasy.
I actually just saw Chris (left) in Los Angeles when he popped by Raunch at Faultline where I was DJing, looking as cute as ever and acting as sweet as ever while subtly trying to subvert my DJ set into a pop music bonanza.
I CAN SEE YOUR HALO, HALO, HALO and it's really really red.
Thug misses known what I mean.
Barchy and his buddy, meditating to something like the sounds of Beth Ditto or Karen O. most likely.
Even though I'm sure I told them when they covered, I once again would like to say how much I love Kevin (left) and Colby, two of the hardest working DJs in the game who have been hustling nonstop from Seattle to London and back to New York to bring great music and great energy to everyone they meet.
Yup. Your typical Wednesday Good Times scene at Eastern Bloc. Handsome drunk bearded boys and lots of red lightbulbs and disco balls.
Oooooooooh. Looks like Evans (left) and Telfar may have come from baking class before they popped by and whatever they feasted on looks mad delicious.
SIDEBOOB ALERT! If this party did indeed take place in the Autumn, I'm pretty sure that Brian (left) and Damian have been partying straight on through winter and spring with maybe five nights off TOTAL between the two of them.
I swear that we accept no money from Pabst Blue Ribbon in any way, shape or form, though getting a sponsorship from them wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. Anyone? Anyone?
Joey (right) and Frankie, sitting in a denim-lined and air-conditioned tree (and drinking PBR no less).
BEARDED EAST VILLAGE TWIN FANTASY is about to commence in 3, 2, 1...
And that's it for our long, lost unseen Good Times photo archive. Your guess is still as good as mine as to when this party went down but I still sort of wish I was there. Join us at our next Good Times, May 23, when we welcome the unstoppable and unbelieveable Alex from Tokyo. See ya! xx, Sparber
