TRACK DU JOUR: ZAZ TURNED BLUE

I was lucky enough to catch Polly Jean Harvey perform live at Terminal 5 last night as part of her Let England Shake tour. She reminded me how big she can sound despite her petite appearance. Her mic, however, was quite treble heavy from the get go and sounded shrill during the songs from the newest album, which she played in its entirety starting at the beginning of the show.

I would have preferred a seated venue this time around had I known she wouldn't be rocking out (though she did play Big Exit as an encore). To her credit, she seamlessly worked in tracks from Is This Desire? which sounded fantastic when played along with her newer stuff. A favorite PJ song of mine that appeared on a lounge compilation long ago would have also worked well last night, which is why I've chosen it as today's track du jour. Enjoy a rarer PJ gem called Zaz Turns Blue.

TRACK DU JOUR: SWEET JANE

Remember when the Natural Born Killers soundtrack came out and everyone was like, holy shit! cuz it juxtaposed L7 and Patti Smith and Leonard Cohen and Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn? Well among many my discoveries from this life changing soundtrack was this Cowboy Junkies cover of the Velvet Underground's Sweet Jane, which actually had the Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewish dialogue on soundtrack but I present the dialogueless version for a throwback track du jour.
