GOOD TIMES: HOLY SHEET!

Happy Rosh Hashana! Last night, we rang in the jewish new year of 5768 with an all out jew bash, featuring multicolored yarmulkes and Manischewitz shots. Dudes were hanging from the rafters from 1030pm onward due to the massive turnout. 5768 shall be a good year indeed if it was anything like our party last night.

My former roommate Rachel is a rabbi in training. She hooked us up with hot pink yarmulkes, which were a big hit with jews and nonjews alike.

You know gramps totally saw my flier and was like, CHALLAH!

Cute guys sometimes opt for beer, even when tempted with cheap Svedka and Manischewitz.

Yarmulkes usually have an inscription on the inside from whatever bar mitzvah or wedding they were engraved for. You know Patrick's (right) says Moishe Rabinowitz.

The Princess Leia yarmulke trick for girls. Never gets old, or does it?

One of my friends was like, "I really hope there are some nice jewish doctors in the house tonight. I could use one of those." Sadly, those kinds of people don't always party till 4am on a Wednesday.

Matt the Baker was on photo duty last night but he neglected to snap any shots of yours truly. If you look really closely though, you can see me in DJ booth wearing a yarmulke for the first time since I was bar mitzvahed.

Shalom handsome! Come again next Wednesday please.

Adam (left) co-hosted Holy Sheet with me. He also came up with the name and doled out Manischewitz shots while I played intermittent klezmer hits.

These two are toasting l'shana tova, which means "for a good year," just in case you were one of the 200 people who asked me what it meant last night.

Ryan is a jew friend of my rabbi roommate Rachel. He's one of those read-the-blog-but-skip-the-party kind of guys. Until Holy Sheet. Now he's a convert!

Eric (left) co-hosted Holy Sheet as well. We went to jew camp together 17 years ago but failed to fool around in the shower house, which he still bemoans.

Artsy yarmulke photo! Can you name the heads of these Good Times regulars?

There's only one thing better than taxidermy in yarmulkes...

...PUPPIES IN YARMULKES!

Of course EVA opted for a yarmulke chic look, which often entails an off-center, front-of-the-head approach to head covering.

Somehow, a computerized hologram version of Peter turned up instead of the real thing.

Everyone engaged in such deep discussion, probably about the Palestinian territory or something equally as sermon worthy.

Jewish mom alert! I know that she's really in her 20s, but doesn't she totally look like she could be going around the bar saying, DO YOU REALLY THINK ITS A GOOD IDEA TO BE DRINKING ON A WEEKNIGHT?

Peter has a last name that sounds jewish but its only because his Dad is jewish. His mom is a total goy, which, in jewish law, means Peter ain't one of the chosen people. Sorry Peter!

You know your party is the shit when you've swayed George away from the Phoenix Bar on a Wednesday night.

This guy made some really strange music request which I've blocked out of my head for the moment. It was probably on par with the dude who requested Linda Ronstadt later on.

Jewish or non-jewish, cute guys were in full effect.

Rosh Hashana is NOT like regular New Year's, where you're supposed to make out at midnight. I'm sure this dude just got confused and forgot he was gay for a minute too.

Andre is like the Sammy Davis Jr. of the East Village. As in he loves jews and is a great entertainer! Stop thinking in racial terms - its a new year. New beginnings!

Doni (in the yellow) supposedly hosted the party as well, but had to duck out early with his tall, non-jewish boyfriend (in the white) since Doni is a nice, Jewish lawyer.

I love this guy! He seriously makes any party 20 times better with those glasses, that bowtie and his smile.

Jeff (left), amongst a sea of jew-loving revelers.

JR was like, "What's the name of that guy in the white v-neck." He might as well have asked the name of the guy in the pink yarmulke.

Another fresh face at Good Times. Someone suggested doing a gay jew party every Wednesday. I was like, ummmm, well, ummmmm, see you at the Hannukah get together.

Requisite cheek-licking photo.

John may or may not have been sober at this point, but I'm pretty sure he was grooving to Hava Nagila, which I played not once, but twice.

The hotness! Have you been noticing the ghetto print-outs in the background that say Shana Tova! and Happy Rosh Hashana. It's all in the details, people.

Little known fact: Sammy the bartender is a jew! Who knew? He is the exception to the rule when it comes to hairy jew boys.

School is back in session! Bring on the 21 year olds.

The hotness that is Geroge was once again styling last night in an ultra-thin tee and fitted cap. Yes please.

Ludo (left) donned a yarmulke on his mohawk for like, half a second. Adam (right), on the other hand, had his jewfro covered the entire night, or so we are told. He doesn't remember anything past 1am.

Even bartender Darren got into the jewiness of the par-tay.

Yes, its that time of the night when folks need help standing up straight.

Bring on more Manischewitz shots, says Dave!

I guess those sunglasses are just in case the sun should rise at 4am when clubs close in New York. Or the walk of shame.

When you bump and grind jew style, remember to keep a hold on your kippah at all times.

Totally israeli. I bet he's complaining about people stepping on his Birkenstocks.

Cameron (left) and Michael made a rare weeknight appearance. Michael once sold me a Sir Mix-A-Lot record and we've been friends ever since.

Kevin, rubbing in the fact that jews can't tan very well.

Everyone's favorite Feygeleh, Ms. Burke (left), is back from P-Town! And he only complained about the music twice last night!

SURPRISE! Brad bussed up from Philly and grew out his payot along the way.

We toyed with the idea of lifting Adam up on a barstool, hora style, but folks had to settle for traditional dance in lieu of the possible lawsuit jews are known for filing.

Thank you Marc (left) for creating such an exquisite party flier. He is the real reason tons of boys came out last night, including his suitor of the evening (right).

Words cannot express the amazingness of this couple.

Did you know that the neighbors called the cops on us TWICE last night? "All we are say-ing, is give peace (in the middle east) a chance."

"No, but honestly, can we discuss Britney at the VMAs for real?"

This one was about to hand me a vibrating dildo from his satchel when I abruptly steered the conversation in a please-don't-give-me-that direction.

Michael did a little jig just as the rest of the crowd began to dance to more modern music such as M.I.A. or whoever...

...and then the camera died at 1am (after photographing David Davis). Yeah, I know, I'm too cheap to buy a battery with longer battery life. What can I say? I'M JEWISH!

Jimmy will be back next Wednesday to share Good Times party duties with me. And I'll be DJing the Cock this coming Sunday. I might even play Hava Nagila if you request it.

ENDLESS SUMMER

My college buddy Tyler (below) ditched New York City earlier this year for the shores of Hawaii. Here's to an endless summer, or at least a warm one until November.

GOOD TIMES: DESTINATION NEW YORK

Fashion week! Rosh hashana! Back to school! With more occasions than not to celebrate right now, it's no wonder that last night's boys boozed their brains out at our Good Times party.

Now that airfare prices have dropped, handsome men from around the world, including Sean's friend from Portland, OR (right, with Sean) are Eastern Bloc bound.

Baby C and his hot friend Pete (pictured above) called the bar and gave us advance notice that they'd be rolling up in a limo in two minutes.

...except when you're really sloshed, it's easy to get "limo" and "Lincoln Town Car" mixed up. I LOVE YOU BABY C!

Craig cleared up a long-running rumor that he's been in a 10-year relationship. Apparently, that relationship ended seven years, in case you were wondering.

Jimmy DJed atop a bar stool since he sprained his already injured leg this week. Have fun in Andalucia Jimmy!

Christian (left) brought Glenn out for a drink, since Glenn is in from London for week's worth of fashion journalism. Drink up!

The speakers were a bit fucked up last night, so we turned the music up to 11, as you can see in this here picture.

I was like, "Tommy, how was your photo shoot in Lousiana?" an he was all, "that was a year ago," so I was like, ummmm, errrrrr, yeah, but you never told me how it was. (awkward.)

Good Times is seriously becoming THE punk rock chick hangout. Don't be surprised if you see Karen O. posing with the taxidermy next week at our gay Rosh Hashana party.

Maybe this guy's name is Kyle, or he looks like a guy named Kyle. He's one of those guys that I know but don't really know so I won't say hi but then I'll act like I know him the next day on my blog.

Adam (center) is throwing the gay Rosh Hashana party with me next week. We're calling it Holy Sheet and rounding up the hottest gay jews in New York City to come and throw down. BYOT (bring your own tallis).

Love him! He's the requisite tall indie guy that every party needs.

Darren is so cute and photogenic but sometimes his forehead reflects flash photography like nobody's business.

I hate admitting that dog tags are sexy but when a sexy guy wears them, I have no choice.

This is like a Rorschach test: Which do you notice first - the cutie on the left of the licking action on the right?

On Saturdays, I work at Tompkins Square Bakery (come stalk me) and this guy on the left is one of our regulars. From time to time, I see him hammered at East Village bars, where he comes up to me and yells, "BAKERY GUY!!!!!!!"

Anthony (left) helped out with camera duties and gossiped about Manhunt with me last night.

The pinball machine has finally been fixed and is now open for playing and getting played.

Seated pole dancing, coming soon as a Crunch fitness class.

ACK! Doesn't it look like this guy is totally faceless or can rotate his head 100+ degrees?!?!

That's right, Adam, BEG FOR IT.

I do triple duty as DJ, schmoozer and boozer, though last night I wasn't drinking, which is why things stayed pretty tame.

Do you think he has the hiccups and is trying to drink that upside down? Does that even work?

People always stare at the TV monitors and then ask me if the current film is in sync with the music. Those people also tend to make dumb requests.

Jimmy's best friend Mike (right, with friend) was in town representing Hotlanta for all the freaknics in the hizz-ouse.

French visitors number 4283 for Ludo (left). And no, they allegedly don't do threesomes with anyone, or at least that's what they told Ludo.

Jeff is back in town and will soon be burning hair at a salon near you.

Baby C (right), posing with a wax statue of Adam.

One of James Ryan's many personalities, all of whom he has given midwestern mom names like Connie and Tina.

Angel (right) is traveling the world right now but stopped in for some NYC good times before departing for London. His friend is some famous Telemundo star who didn't like any photos I took of him. Sorry Telemundo guy!

I love the guy on the left. is he 23 or 43?

Jeff and Patches (right) caught up on Jeff's year in Seattle and Patches' year in naps.

Christine and Paul are the loves of my life. We usually hang on Fridays so it was a delight to see them on a Wednesday in color coordinated hoodies. (It was like, 80 degrees last night, FYI.)

FASHION WEEK IS IN FULL EFFECT PEOPLE. TAKE COVER.

Kyle is officially single, ladies and gentlemen. Well, not ladies because he won't date you, but he WILL give you a lap dance, do a split and offer you free psychoanalytic advice.

Kyle and Paul, closing out the bar on another successful Wednesday night.

I am DJing the Cock THIS SUNDAY starting at 11pm. Email me for guest list action. And get ready for Holy Sheet: A Gay Rosh Hashana Celebration, next week at Eastern Bloc. Flyer to follow shortly.

CLUBLAND GOSSIP: MR. BLACK UPDATE

Gay club Mr. Black is still shuttered as details emerge about Friday night's brouhaha. According to gaysocialites.com, the Friday night/Saturday morning raid that result in 17 staff member arrests was drug motivated. Charges against staff members (DJ included!) for criminal nuisance--doing nothing about illegal drug dealings-- are allegedly being dropped. In total, 35 were arrested: three for dealing, 15 for possession and 17 staffers. Sucks.

SONG OF THE WEEK(END): GHETTO OBSESSION

Instead of getting arrested at Mr. Black on Friday, I made a rare trip out to Brooklyn to witness the french house phenomena that are DJs Orgasmic, Surkin and Para One. Though I had high hopes for Orgasmic, Mr. Surkin (pictured above) stole the show with electro madness that had me dancing till 3something a.m. He opened with his own jam, Ghetto Obsession and continued uphill from there. Here's what you missed.

HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Hanging around the East Village this weekend? Me too.

CLUBLAND GOSSIP: MAJOR RAID AT MR. BLACK!

We just found out that the East Village clubhouse Mr. Black was raided by FIFTY or so cops last night at 4am. Instead of a routine bust ("lights up, go home"), we hear that some patrons and nearly all employees, including doorgirl Roze, DJ Sammy Jo and the World Famous Ass (pictured above) were hauled down to central booking and will remain behind bars for 24 - 36 hours. Happy labor day fags!

Earlier this week on Thursday, cops raided the seemingly seedier East Village hangout, the Cock, only to find an Employees Must Wash Hands sign missing from the otherwise up to par bathroom (?!!) and venue. At Mr. Black, DJs, go-go boys, bouncers, bartenders and patrons were handcuffed and led off a dance floor littered with 50+ bags of drugs.

No word yet as to when the club will re-open, though we here that the manager snuck out and is working with a lawyer to reopen as soon as possible. Has the city been mounting a case against Mr. Black as an after-hours venue since APT was shuttered half a year ago? Is a Giuliani-style crackdown of gay NYC venues back in effect? Stay tuned.
